Questions people ask

The things people call and ask before they book. If yours is not here, call Kathy.

Is it a demonstration?

No. Many cheese classes are a demonstration at the front of the room. Here you do the work yourself, with your own hands, from curdling the milk to stretching the mozzarella, and you take home the cheese you made.

What is the difference between the two classes?

The Chèvre & Mozzarella class is a two-hour morning class and costs $50 per person. You make fresh chèvre (goat cheese) and stretch your own mozzarella. It is a good first class.

The Cheddar & Mozzarella class is a six-hour day and costs $100 per person. It goes deeper: cultures, the different milks, coagulation, and the press. You go home with a piece of finished cheddar, the mozzarella you made, and a resource sheet with where to get cultures and rennet.

Do I take cheese home?

Yes. In the morning class you take home the chèvre and mozzarella you made, with tips and recipes to try in your own kitchen. In the full-day class you take home a piece of finished cheddar and the mozzarella you made that day.

Do I need any experience?

No. Most people who come have never made cheese. Kathy or a member of the farm's dairy team walks you through the whole process, from curdling to stretching, and you work with your own hands the entire time.

Can kids take the class?

Yes. The class is in a kitchen, and we work with boiling water and hot items. Children need to be able to follow directions, and parents need to take responsibility for their child. Kathy has had children as young as 4 take the class.

Whose milk do you use?

Ours. Every class starts with milk from the farm's own dairy herd. Flint Hill is a PA-certified raw milk dairy, and the class runs in the farm's commercial kitchen.

When are the classes, and how do I pick a date?

Classes are held on Saturdays. Buy the class online and pick the Saturday you want when you add it to the cart. That purchase is your class certificate, and Kathy confirms the date by phone. Or call Kathy at (610) 838-2928 and set it up with her directly. Need a different day? That is only possible by agreement with Kathy before you buy, so call her first.

Can I give a class as a gift?

Yes, and many people do. Buy the class in the name of the person you are giving it to, or in your own, and they call Kathy to pick their Saturday. A class certificate is good for one year from the date of purchase.

Can we come as a group?

Yes. The price is per person, so book one seat for each of you and mention in the "Anything we should know?" box in your cart that you are coming together. Have six or more? Ask about the group cheese making and tasting class, a fun evening for adults 21 and up. Bring your own bottle.

What if I need to change my date?

Give us one week's notice and we'll reschedule you. There are no direct refunds on classes; your certificate stays good for a year.

Where is the class?

At Flint Hill Farm, 1922 Flint Hill Road, Coopersburg, PA 18036, in Lehigh County. We're a short drive south of Allentown and Bethlehem and north of Quakertown.
